1️⃣ Rig the Arms
2️⃣ Add Arm Physics
🚩 Quest 1: Create Arm Parameters
🚩 Quest 2: Deform the Arm
🚩 Quest 3: Add Physics Group
Let’s start by creating the Blend Shape parameters that will drive our arm and sleeve movement.
Make sure you create separate parameters for the Left and Right arms. They’ll need separate physics groups later.
We'll use deformers to create motion in the arms. Start with the left side and reflect it later to get perfect symmetry.
We’ll begin with Body X Augment:
Adjust the shoulder and arm to follow the body X
Also add Body Z Augment to this deformer for extra rotation.
⚠️ Make sure the shoulder still connects properly to the torso during these motions. If needed, glue can be used, but I wont use it here.
Now we’ll create motion using Y1 to Y5 parameters.
Arm L Y1
Make sure that your shoulder is deformed to connect to your Torso.
Arm L Y2
These deformations are at the elbows! Don't worry if they look very drastic, you'll be able to turn them down with physics!
Arm L Y3
The Y4 and Y5 parameters will be used to make the fingers move!
We must add path deform points to each finger art mesh.
Arm L Y4
We'll bend all of the fingers inward and outward.
Arm L Y5
And Y5, will be for just our finger tips!
You’ll need to deform the sleeve parts to follow the arm, and add a bit of bounce with physics.
I separated the front and back parts of the sleeves.
Left Sleeve Front X - Body X Augment
Left Sleeve Back - Body X Augment
Sleeve Y Adjusts
These deformers just make sure our sleeve is moving with our arm in the Y1 Parameter!
Sleeve Physics
Blend Shapes, Minimum: -1, Default: 0, Maximum: 1
Example X1:
Example X2
Let’s add the physics!
Input
Pendulum
Output
For the Right Arm physics group, the only important thing to do is Reflect the Body X to make sure the arms flow nicely in the X axis!
Physics for your sleeves are totally up to you!
Make sure to Copy, Paste, and Reflect your entire end at the end too!
