Stage 5 - Reflecting the Left Eye

STAGE

🧭 Lesson Objective

1️⃣ Copy, Paste, & Reflect our finished Left Eye to create the Right Eye

🎯 Lesson Quests

🚩 Quest 1: Preparing for Reflection of the Eye
🚩 Quest 2: Copy, Paste, & Reflect
🚩 Quest 3: Make new physics groups for the Right Eye

🚩 Quest 1: Preparing for Reflection of the Eye

Before we reflect the Left Eye to the right side, we need to clear out the old Right Eye parts.

  1. Select all Right Eye ArtMeshes and Deformers — including the right eyebrow
  1. Hit Delete — we’ll be creating everything fresh from the Left side

Now double-check that you’ve created all the Right Eye parameters to match your Left Eye.
(These should be exact duplicates — same names, values, and settings, just switch L to R!)

Once those are ready… we’re good to go!

🚩 Quest 2: Copy, Paste, & Reflect

🧩 Step 1: Select Eye Parts

  1. Select all ArtMeshes and Deformers for the Left Eye
  2. Do NOT select:
    • Eyebrow [XY]
    • Eyes [XY]

These deformers stay shared across both eyes and don’t need reflection.

🧩 Step 2: Copy and Paste

  • Press CTRL + C (or Right Click > Copy)
  • Then CTRL + V (or Right Click > Paste)

This creates a full duplicate of the Left Eye on top of itself.

🧭 Step 3: Reflect Horizontally

  1. Without deselecting anything, go to:
    Modeling > Edit Form > Reflect…
  2. In the Reflect window:
    • Check “Reflect Horizontally”
    • Check “Eyeball X Augment”

This ensures that the motion stays facing outward after reflection (not flipped inward).

💡 Optional: You can assign a hotkey to this! I use CTRL + SHIFT + R.

Click OK — your Right Eye is now reflected and positioned!

*** DO NOT UNSLECT ANYTHING JUST YET! ***

🧠 Step 4: Remap Parameters

Before unselecting your eye:

  1. Right-click one of the parameter keys on the timeline
  2. From the dropdown, choose “Change”
  1. Select the Right Eye parameter you want to switch to (In this case, the mirror R Parameter)

Repeat this process for all parameters (Open, Smile, Physics, etc.) — you're just replacing the Left Eye versions with the Right ones.

Once everything is changed, you’re done!

🚩 Quest 3: Make Physics Groups for the Right Eye

Head into the Physics Settings window.

We’ll now duplicate the physics groups and replace their inputs and outputs with the Right Eye parameters.

🔧 Step-by-Step:

  1. Select a Left Eye physics group
  2. Click Duplicate
  1. Open the duplicated group
  2. In the Input tab, swap:
    • EyeL OpenEyeR Open
    • EyeL SmileEyeR Smile
  1. In the Output tab, swap:
    • EyelashL 1/2, IrisL PH 1/2, etc.
→ Replace with their Right side counterparts

Repeat for each group (Iris, Pupil, Highlights, Blob, etc.)

That’s it! Your Right Eye now has matching physics to the Left Eye.
